“What do women want? They want to be beautiful.” – Valentino
The obsession with fashion continues with Matt Tyrnauer’s documentary portrait of Valentino that opened March 18 in NY at Film Forum. WWD reported yesterday that its the highest-grossing documentary debut of 2009, making it one of the top Film Forum premiers. An homage to the master of haute couture, the doc focuses on his personal life, the preparation of one of Valentino’s final couture shows, and the climactic three-day blowout commemorating Valentino’s 45th anniversary in fashion. This blowout featured a “celeb-packed black-tie ball at the Villa Borghese and a Cirque du Soleil-like spectacle at the Temple of Venus overlooking the Colosseum, illuminating his signature red with high-wire ballerinas flying to and fro.” (NYT)
