Noriko Ambe

2008w0002p01

Noriko Ambe traces the fine line between physical and emotional geography – the result is an amazingly intricate 3-dimensional sculpture that falls between a topographical map and the rings of a tree.  Her work features painstakingly subtle cut layers that, when stacked on top of one another, form cavernous clusters resembling the ever-chaotic-but-always-beautiful Mother Nature.  There is something quintessentially organic about her work that we find inspiring, yet her choice of medium- be it an Ed Ruscha book or thin pieces of Yupo, challenges the viewer to question the boundaries of modern life and our role in an increasingly urban environment.

Noriko describes her work as “the traces of actions of a person” and found that she is “concerned less about the end, and more about ‘doing’. The process of creating is equally as important as the finished work.”  We find it all fascinating and are truly inspired.  Click here to view her work.
