I think it’s because I hate the originals so much that I find myself obsessed with these Barnaby Barford badass porcelain figurines. The genius, the beauty the wonder is not just using a medium to mock a medium – it’s the complete defilement of the Precious Moments community. And. I. Love. It. An excerpt from the artist’s website describes his process:
The ceramic or porcelain pieces are made by either painting on or cutting up the found figurines and re-assembling them together providing a clever way of getting people to look again at something they would on principle have dismissed.
And with titles like, “Wonderland?! What fucking postcode’s that?” and “Do it again, I didn’t press record” you can’t help but look. Sometimes beauty is a slap to the face.
