On June 25th, Cliff Garten Studio will unveil the “avenue of light” project in Fort Worth, TX.
The design firm developed and installed six, 36-foot sculptures that stretch for a half mile along the town’s historic Lancaster Avenue. We love that the sculptures are made up of multiple, stainless steel discs that catch the sunlight during the day and are illuminated with LED lights at night. The result is an amazing series of towers that can be both transparent and opaque depending on the viewer’s position and the time of day.
But, what we really love is that the towers’ discs are inspired by the nearby Texas & Pacific Terminal – a gorgeous art deco landmark also on Lancaster Ave. We admire the designer’s subtle nod to a historic time and place that shaped the town – a homage to an architectural style that balances delicate & bold, feminine & masculine and was born out of a time when our country was filled with enthusiasm and optimism. Could the timing be any better?? We are so happy to see cities, towns and other public works committees recognize the power of beauty and the effects of art in a community. And, we are elated that the firm chosen to build such a monument was able to recognize it’s importance of existing architecture to inspire contemporary design.
