How Time is Spent in America

The New York Times has a fascinating interactive graphic visualizing data collected during the 2008 Annual Time Use Survey, which asks thousands of U.S. residents to recall every minute of a single day.  The tool is currently being used by economists attempting to value the time spent by the unemployed, but it is also an invaluable source of data for those of us in the business of creating and selling products and services.  Some of the information is genuinely surprising.  For example, 53% of people aged 65 or over are watching TV or movies at 9:00PM – a number that seems especially high when compared to only 27% of 15-24 year-olds.
