You’re J.Crew. Forever pigeon-holed into khakis, madras and East Hampton bbq’s. Which is fine for a while, but your sales model is in trouble…gone are the days of giant, faceless department store clothing conglomerates. Sales in general are declining and on top of that, no one wants to buy mass anymore. So how do you survive? How to do you make yourself cool again? You give your brand some personality. You make it a man haven and men will come. You introduce NYC to the new-and-improved J.Crew Men’s store…
Step one: buy an old liquor store.
Step two: work with a handful of designers to offer a range of third-party vintage and limited edition pieces by: Thomas Mason, Alden shoes, Red Wing Boots, Baracuta jackets and Timex watches.
Step three: mix it with the best men’s clothing J.Crew has to offer.
Step four: wait for the press to go crazy.
Step five: buy another NYC location right next to the it’s-so-hot-right-now-it-hurts Topshop store. Man it up. From the paint to the trim to the furniture – think man.
Step six: add a specialty suit shop.
Step seven: enjoy.
I mean, we didn’t even realize we needed the J.Crew Men’s shops until they arrived, and now we’re sold – and we’re not even men! The new look, the custom suits, the vintage pieces all add up to a completely new, completely put together, completely complete personality. And we’re loving it.
Our only question: When do the ladies get a makeover???
