Designers recognize the desire for fundamental basics that speak to current economic conditions, but also understand the need to incorporate vibrant color to grab the consumers’ eyes and entice them to buy.”
Essie’s Fall Collection clearly reflects this trend, with a diverse palette that ranges from beigey grey to a fun pop of orange that she calls “Bright Tights.” But buyers beware: while bold colored tights may be a huge trend for fall, you might want to choose just one — nails OR nylon — unless you’re channeling Kelly Kapowski.

OPI’s massive Espana collection could inspire Gaudi to recreate his Park Guell benches in jewel tones. While most of the collection features rich, vibrant color, the requisite neutral is a taupe that pays homage to the sandy beaches of Barcelona.

What we’re most excited about is the new Jin Soon for M.A.C. collection that FINALLY hits stores today. These are not your run-of-the-mill colors that you grab off the wall at your local nail salon. I’m dying to try Beyond Jealous, the color Doo.Ri sent down the runway at their Fall 09 show. Our advice? Run, don’t walk to your nearest M.A.C.
Last but not least, we have the matte nail – it’s everywhere. OPI is doing it, Essie launched Matte About You, an anti-shine treatment to render any polish matte, and now Sephora by OPI came out with matte versions of 3 of their top selling colors. Metro Chic (a smokey grey) is an office favorite, so we’re excited to try it in matte.
