We obviously had a fabulous night!  Read our personal takes on why last night was so significant after the jump…

It was shaking the dust off of your credit card, putting on your fancy clothes and going out for the night…

Although I think it was a fantastic idea to get people in-store and feeling good about shopping again, I feel like there was a missed opportunity to encourage people to actually shop…

Fashion’s Night Out was all about the spectacle – who was having the best time, who had the biggest who’s who gathering and THE place-to-be.  It was less about shopping than about being there to say that you were part of it – benevolent chaos sponsored by some of NYC’s biggest brands.  DJs and designers, photographers and models, celebrities and socialites and everyone in between came out to celebrate.  We all shook the dust off our credit cards, put on our fancy clothes and went out for the night.  It was one of those moments where people just had an unspoken connection, we were out to see the show, and stores were more than willing to put one on.  And it worked.   For one night all of NYC decided to take a night off from worry to just have fun.

ANDRIA CASTELLANO

I think I had delusions of grandeur of what seemed to have taken New Yorkers (and even some Jersey-ites) by storm last night – Fashion’s Night Out.  Although I think it was a fantastic idea to get people in-store and feeling good about shopping again, I feel like there was a missed opportunity to encourage people to actually shop.  Most people dressed up, browsed around, drank free champagne, looked for celebs… then off to the next thing. Of course there was the occasional desperado(ahem…me) wasting a poor salesperson’s time trying on an $800 platform heel they have NO intention of buying, but… who am I to judge?  I was a sale hunter and champagne consumer.  And naturally, I touched and drooled over everything I saw…

All in all, I expected more sales, more giveaways, more incentive… Don’t get me wrong, I love a good stroll down 5th Avenue just as much as the next girl, and there’s nothing better the drinking champagne and shopping with your best gals, but I have to admit I could have used a few 10% offs here and there.   As it turns out, it wasn’t a night of SALES SALES SALES, but a night where loving fashion and getting “shoppers” excited again was the highpoint.  If that’s the case, the event was a success, good times were had by all and New York was never more alive!!! Great Job Vogue- you did it again!!
