Packaging for everyday household items (think toilet paper, trash bags, kleenex) is usually anything but luxurious. Enter Gauss Lamps, a premium-segment light bulb brand.
Fastway, a Russian creative agency was challenged to: “create packaging for power saving lamps which considerably would differ from all other packages of the lamps presented in retail networks.”
We love the minimalist, matte black finish of the packaging contrasted with perforations of neon outlines and UV lacquered dots. The simplistic outlines work to elevate the product by highlighting the graceful curves of the glass and the visual connection of bulb to solar system is one of those so-ingenious-I-can’t-believe-it-hasn’t-been-done-before moments.
This is one of the best examples of the power of packaging we’ve seen since we’ve started this blog. Fastway was able to justify Gauss’ higher price point (for a product which is normally associated with the back aisle of the supermarket) by knocking consumers’ socks off with packaging that looks austere and but full of energy.
