hair trend 2010: short and black and some kind of bowl

So this was THE hair cut trend for Korea 2008.

Seo In Young – a Korean singer – completely changed her image and skyrocketed to popularity by chopping off her hair early last year – boldly walking away from the cute, feminine  look epitomized by long hair and favored by the Korean people. Instead, she went short, boyish and incredibly chic – reviving the cut otherwise known as the bowl cut, or grape head or mushroom cut or etc.

The cut isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s confident and bold and strong – the perfect look for a woman secure in her femininity who doesn’t need to hide behind long hair. It’s the complete antithesis of Rapunzel, helpless and locked in a tower. Nope. This chica would take matters into her own hands and kick the door down in fierce heels. It’s an independent, “this is me” mentality that more and more women are embracing – especially in these economic times.

And now, it looks like the look has caught on. Philip Lim paid homage with sleek updated versions in his Fall 2009 show and models are rocking new variations of the bowl cut for 2009-2010.

The straight bowlcut isn’t the easiest look to pull off, but run to your favorite stylist and ask for an updated version to suit your face. Get ready to enter the exclusive, chic world that is bowldom.
